Kinder Joy, Blinkit & Punekars!

Happy 3rd Blogiversary (Blog Anniversary) to all my readers. It has been an adventurous journey of writing for me and hopefully you enjoyed it too! Thank you for being a part of this journey for 3 years. A writer is incomplete without the readers, and thus you are an integral part of this blog. It still feels like it was just yesterday that I wrote my first blog, with no plan about the next one. Every month magically the stories came my way and so I say
‘I don’t fetch stories, stories fetch me’.

After spending the most chaotic weekend with my cousins, it was almost 3 in the morning and 8 of us who were sleeping in the drawing room decided whoever sleeps first will treat the rest of us with a kinder joy. We all were extremely sleepy, so much so that we would have all slept at once if there was no bet, but now that it was, we were forcing our eyes not to close, then at one point we all came down to a consensus that let us drop the bet and sleep peacefully. The lights were put off, alarms were set and everyone took their blankets. A few minutes later lights were put on and Kanchan was caught sleeping, the rest of us woke up and took her picture for evidence, meanwhile she woke up too and everyone said that it was a prank and that she fell for it. But honestly even I thought the consensus was for real and was almost about to sleep when the lights  were switched on.

The next day we all kept pestering her for Kinder Joy. So to end the best get together on a sweet note I ordered 10 kinder joys (that was the limit) from Blinkit because if not for her, I would have definitely fallen for the prank myself. Now this is where the plot twist begins. So while having my lunch at her home I placed the order, it showed 5 min and then within 5 minutes it was delivered. I asked her sister Mansi to get the parcel, she went down and came up saying there is no one downstairs, and on the app it was showing delivered, so I was worried. I called the delivery guy, he said he had put the parcel in the carry bag as instructed by some lady, but in reality none of us had instructed anyone, but Mansi said they also have a carry bag hanging from their balcony. So she pulled the bag up and checked it, but our parcel was not in the bag. I called the delivery guy and asked him where did he deliver our parcel to which he said in ‘plot number 32’ but we had ordered from plot number 36. So I asked him to get the parcel from plot 32 and deliver it to the correct address.

Meanwhile my lunch was done and we (I, Kanchan and Abhiraj) set out in the colony to search ‘plot number 32’. Some houses had addresses written on them while some did not. When I looked around in their colony I saw many carry bags hanging from the balconies, which means our parcel was definitely in one of them. So the first house we thought was plot no. 32,  was her friend’s. So she called out her friend, but her mother came out. We asked her about the parcel, to which she said she did not receive any and that her plot no. was not 32, but she directed us to where it would be. It is not easy to find one plot among 62 of them. The next house that we thought would be 32, had a bell but due to paint work it had got stiff, so Abhiraj called out randomly ‘Kaku’ and an uncle appeared in the window. He seemed like the typical Punekar who would not like to be disturbed at 3 in the afternoon, yet he answered our questions with all the patience he had and did not scold us. Next we rang the bell of the house which was plot 32 and also had a balcony and an old lady came out after 5 minutes, surprisingly she was too dressed to be at home, maybe those 5 minutes were for that, but she was too kind too. She had also not received the parcel, but suggested that we ask her tenants living on the first floor.

Then we came on the first floor, the door of the house was ajar and we could hear someone washing hands. We knocked on the door, but there was no reply, we could still hear someone washing hands, we knocked the door again and a relatively young man (with fear already lingering on his face) came out, we asked him about the parcel and said he had not received any and that he had not received any parcel since morning, I don’t know what was so frightening about the three of us that he looked so afraid, we were not from C.I.D, but maybe he was too innocent. We then came out in despair and I called the Blinkit guy again, he said he was close to the society. Then the first Aunty was still standing outside her house and very kindly enquired if we got our parcel, and we sadly said ‘no’. Then we saw the Blinkit guy coming, and he took a turn into the aisle which we had skipped because it had houses starting from plot no.40 and this guy had delivered our parcel in plot no.42 and not 32!

This house also had a carrybag hanging from the window and the lady too who had asked him to put the parcel in the carrybag, the Blinkit guy shouted at the lady for receiving the parcel that was not hers and handed it over to me. We came back and distributed the kinder joy, our little nieces were the happiest but we cousins knew what a struggle it was to get hold of this kinder joy, it was more of a kinder sorrow than joy! But this incident broke some of my stereotypes about Punekars, that not all of them sleep during the day, even if they do, they do not yell at you if you spoil their sleep for a mere chocolate, and that they are kind and concerned too!

Such situations create a lot of anxiety and panic at the moment. After every ‘no’ my heart sank a bit thinking about the loss of money, chocolate and of course joy (which we could have experienced if not for this mishap). But later on when I told this story of acquiring the kinder joy by waking up Punekars in the afternoon, everyone had a great laugh, but only we (cousins) knew what we went through. Maybe every funny anecdote in life comes after a stressful mishap. So next time around if you are stuck in a stressful mishap just remember that life is about to give you an anecdote on which generations to come will have a great laugh!

  1. Anybody in your shoes would've written off those chocolate-toy treats looking ago & repurchased them, while spinning a yarn. But you & your Punekars Investigation Agency 😂 proved the Plot no. confusion dilemma exists everywhere, disproved the lazy Punekars cliche, found the chocolates & lived to tell the tale. 👏🏿👏🏿

Thanks for sharing your wonderful tales Amusingly, Beautifully, & Consistently over the past 3 years!! May we get to witness many more stories for many more years. God bless!

P.S. Turns out today (June 22) is 'B Kinder Day'.

The Teacup Talks!⛾⛾

The Teacup Talks! A fictional tale of two tea cups! The moon is looking from the window, the tea cups are just washed and kept on the side of the sink to dry before one of them is filled with the first piping hot tea next morning. The 2 teacups are special, it's just the two of them that are left of the set of 6, the other's had a short life. But these two have survived. The silence has started talking loudly, and so have the Teacups, the moon eavesdrop their talk, and this what he hears.... Teacup 1: Hey, are you still awake after the shower? Teacup 2: (with a little shocked expression as Teacup 1 rarely talks) Umm, yes I am awake, how are you awake, you generally sleep soon after the night shower. Teacup 1: (a bit shy yet firmly replying) You are right dear, it is because I am used thrice in a day, so basically I take shower also thrice and that really tires me, but today it was only once in the evening, so I am not that tired and felt like if you are also awake we could have...

Summer Holidays in Gwalior!

Sketch of the House by Mumma! Me, Durva & a Cow on the gate! Once upon a time when the month of May used to be summer vacations, we used to visit Gwalior, a city, a district, a historically important place, and more than that my birth place. It was quite simple, the first ten summer vacations of my life were just going to Gwalior, there was no stress of packing clothes, books, shoes, sunglasses, everything was taken care of by Mumma. It was so exciting to catch a train and enjoy it for 19 hours to travel 1220 kms.  I started writing this blog once before this and ended up writing all about the train journey only and felt like the train journey to Gwalior is in itself a topic for a blog which I will write some time later. For now I want to relive my summer vacations in Gwalior through this blog, and I hope you too recall and reminisce about your childhood summer vacations after reading this one.  So it always began with searching for Patil Baba (Blog link: https://sidthissid...

Virtues Nursery!

Goswami Madam and mini Siddhi! God cannot be everywhere so he created Parents and Teachers. Parents often see us grow all along but teachers witness us only for some years and then we grow up and move on to the next class and they are left behind with a new batch of students. My first school or now as they say playschool was ‘Virtues Nursery’ where I did my playgroup and nursery under the guidance and great teachings of my most respected and dearest Goswami Madam. The name of the school was a reflection of what we were taught, yes ‘virtues’ of respect, conduct, care, love, sharing and so much more. I still remember being taught how to sit properly, how to respect elders, how to eat food when sitting with a gathering alongside the alphabet, numbers and poems. After a certain point we are generally taught the syllabus of our curriculum, but it was in Virtues Nursery that lessons on life and the conduct of it were actually taught.  Goswami Madam could teach us ‘Virtues’ as she ...
