The Fourth Seat!

The Mumbai locals have enumerable stories to tell.  There are so many aspects that can be explored and written but my favorite of all is the fourth seat. So, for a Mumbaikar this is a common term, but for those who don't know let me explain. Like Mumbai local train is called the lifeline of Mumbai, fourth seat is the ventilator, yes this is because when you get in the train and all seats are preoccupied you ask the person sitting on the third place to shift and the little place on the edge of the seat is The Fourth Seat.   The fourth seat has its own importance so much so that people even reserve it beforehand from those occupying it. So when you are kind of late or if the train is late or if yours is a middle station then most probably the fourth seat is what you get. Monday's Mistake!

Happy New year my dear readers! New year , new resolutions, new me and all that is fine but half way through January we are all the same us and no matter how hard we decide to like what we do and enjoy it, Monday still sucks! There is nothing that can make it fun and interesting , also when you are late on a Monday morning, everything from there on gets wrong and continues till the end of the day. So a similar Monday was on 16th of January and I was late on a Monday morning. I don't want to blame anything because first of all it was my mistake that I was late to the station but afterwards it was all Monday's mistake. The staircase to the overhead bridge was under construction so only one of them was open which was used by both sides of people, and was watched by security forces who were letting batches of people onto it , so there was a queue whereas it was supposed to be empty otherwise.    It was a normal Thursday morning in Mumbai on 4th of August 2022, as usual I was going to take the 9:17am local train along with my friend. I reached the station, found my friend and boarded the train. As usual it was too chaotically crowded in the beginning and then it slowly slowly became peaceful. Then me and my friend got up 2 stations prior to ours so that we could comfortably get down. And then the real story begins.   So there was a bag kept on the floor just beside the door and a lady(1) in salwar kameez was standing beside it. Suddenly a lady(2) dressed in english formals got up from her seat and came up and stood near the door. Both of them were in their late forties or early fifties. Now both these ladies started chatting. (Disclaimer I did not eavesdrop on their conversation but they were loud enough to be heard). Lady(2) said," I really love to stand at the door and enjoy the cool rainy breeze hitting my face but today my calves are paining so I sat down"....
