The Teacup Talks!

A fictional tale of two tea cups!

The moon is looking from the window, the tea cups are just washed and kept on the side of the sink to dry before one of them is filled with the first piping hot tea next morning. The 2 teacups are special, it's just the two of them that are left of the set of 6, the other's had a short life. But these two have survived. The silence has started talking loudly, and so have the Teacups, the moon eavesdrop their talk, and this what he hears....

Teacup 1: Hey, are you still awake after the shower?

Teacup 2: (with a little shocked expression as Teacup 1 rarely talks) Umm, yes I am awake, how are you awake, you generally sleep soon after the night shower.

Teacup 1: (a bit shy yet firmly replying) You are right dear, it is because I am used thrice in a day, so basically I take shower also thrice and that really tires me, but today it was only once in the evening, so I am not that tired and felt like if you are also awake we could have a talk.

Teacup 2: (intimidated with the reference 'dear') Oh yes, I am not as tired as you. I am just used once in a day, but what do you want to talk about with me?

Teacup 1: Aaaa…. Like I wonder sometimes how come we are both the same yet I am used thrice, why aren't you picked instead of me even once.

Teacup 2: Because she brews and pours the tea.

Teacup 1: So she chooses you for her and me for him? But how does she differentiate among us, we are exactly the same.

Teacup 2: (takes a deep breath) No we are not the same, I am chipped at the bottom, so she fills me up only for her and picks you for him as you are perfect just like him!

Teacup 1: (shocked at the revelation) I am sorry, I did not notice that.

Teacup 2: It's okay, you are too busy to notice that, I can understand.

Teacup 1: No, I am really sorry I should have noticed, it's anyway just the two of us left from our set of 6. The other cups are in their respective groups, we should be there for each other.

Teacup 2: Hmm but it is not all your mistake, we are always placed side by side, be it near the sink after shower or in the drawer, it is difficult to see sideways.

Teacup 1: No but we are in front of each other every evening during their tea time, I should have known that.

Teacup 2: Yes the only time I see you face to face in front of my eyes, and they see each other!

Teacup 1: (after a brief awkward silence) She washes me with love, sometimes even talks to me about him, or maybe just talks to herself, I want to reply to her worries about him, I want to tell her that he loves the tea she makes, it's just that he is a man of few words and silence is my language that she does not understand.

Teacup 2: I understand you, but I envy you as she washes you like you are some special cup and I am just another cup for her, I like it when he washes me, that happens quite rarely though but he holds me with care, talks with his eyes looking at me and blushes his heart out until I am safely placed beside the sink to dry.

Teacup 1: That's beautiful. I didn't know that, well even I envy you then, because when he washes me he does it like a responsibility of washing me alongside you otherwise the pair won't be available for the next tea time.

Teacup 2: So we are both on the same page then, I hope we could tell them that. They would be glad to know these little things that mean so much. But with the helper she washes me like a chore.

Teacup 1: Me too! With the helper it is like being in a creche, it is like being someone's chore.

Teacup 2: But do you acknowledge the fact that she never gives us to anyone else, we are always reserved for the both of them.

Teacup 1: Yes even when there are guests, when they can have their tea in new cups that are in set of 6, she still chooses us over the set and it's just them in the odd cups.

Teacup 2: The new cups get a chance only when the guests come but we are lucky we are everyday cups, we get to see the morning sun and the sunset evenings with a pinch of world view, national politics, traffic and family gossip!

Teacup 1: True though. It felt so good talking with you after so long, we should do this quite often.

Teacup 2: You are right we should talk and catch up over things left unsaid, sometimes it's better to say things out aloud, than letting the silence speak.

Teacup 1: The silence can have multiple meanings, but when we speak out exactly how and what we feel it puts everything in perspective and seems like a better option.

Teacup 2: Now that we are almost dry, let's call it a night before it gets too late. You have to get up early.

Teacup 1: Yes, I have to get up early in the morning, so good night take care, and do not get chipped, I can’t survive alone, if you are broken I will also be given away.

Teacup 2: Don't worry he saw my chipped end the other day while washing me and got a gap filling adhesive to fix me, but he has been busy this week so he did not have the time to fix, but I am sure before we meet next time he will have fixed me.

Teacup 1: Great! Then we would both be alike again and I will not have to be used thrice. You too can take my place!

Teacup 2: Maybe, or maybe not. Good Night.

The moon smiles after their conversation comes to an end, he gets back to his element where he is being stared at by lovers of night.

Books, Bookmarks and Bibliophiles!

Last Sunday (September 14, 2025) was the best Sunday of my life; it seems like God painted this particular page of my life with all the variety of colors He had! It was raining the day before, and Sunday morning also started with rain, but Rain God was kind to us and He spared some hours for the book launch of ‘THE LOCAL TALES’.  I reached the park, where I am present almost every Sunday to read with ‘Pages of Panvel’, the beautiful book community, where I walked in as the first reader back in January’25, and within months, I was walking in not just as a reader but as a writer too, and that made me a little anxious and nervous all at once.  After reading from 8 to 10 am, the usual book circle was hosted, where readers shared what they were reading, and Mumma also talked about some Hindi books that she had read. Her fluent Hindi impressed everyone, and thus, Hindi day was celebrated! Post, which Anushka Kulkarni, the founder of Pages of Panvel, handed over the dias to me. I g...

Dear Pappa....

This blog is very special to me, not because it is the first blog of the year 2025 but because it is on the 'Man I Love the most in this world', of course my Pappa! The blog is not on Amar Bhosale the person because that can be a novel, it is on Amar Bhosale the father, the best gift God gave me and my sister. I acknowledge that a blog on him would be too lengthy, but then being the daughter of the writer who is known for expressing anything crisply, this is a challenge I take up on myself, so let's get started!   So once I saw a movie in which Amitabh Bachchan opens the fridge and it has pastries of all flavours in it, and I loved that scene, so I told my family about the movie and my favourite scene in the afternoon and in the evening when I opened our fridge Pappa had actually recreated that scene for me by keeping pastries of all flavours in the fridge just like that, and I was overjoyed by his gesture! And this is just one of the many memories that he has created for ...

43) My BAGWATI!

My BAGWATI! Today I received my new bag. It is a multi-chain navy blue convertible backpack. Convertible because the backpack straps could be hidden inside a compartment, and it looks like an office handbag. I loved it the moment I saw it online, and around the same time, our family friends wanted to gift me something on account of my book being published, so this bag! Taking this bag in my hand flooded me with memories of the bags that I have used and bought so far. The most exciting thing during school reopening time was buying a new bag every year. Which included convincing Mumma that the old bag is not enough, or it's torn, or about to become non-functional soon. And then going for bag shopping was like an event, similar to buying a house; both are equally difficult things to choose. Touching the bags, feeling them, fidgeting with the chains, looking at how spacious the interior of the bag is, will it be able to fit our tiffin and bottle (the most important things in a bag), an...
