Dear Readers,
Today is my Birthday, and birthdays remind me of cakes, candles, balloons, confetti, family, friends, gifts and of course return gifts! You all have been consistently reading my monthly blogs and giving me feedback on the same, all your feedback are my gifts, and it's been more than a year and a half that I am receiving your gifts, so I thought to take my birthday as an opportunity to give you all a 'Return Gift'.
My return gift to all my readers is a book recommendation. A book that I came across on instagram while mindlessly scrolling through reels, and sometimes as they say you don't find the book, the book finds you, and this one definitely did. So my return gift is 'Tuesdays with Morrie'. It's a nice short and sweet book which I read on a sunny Sunday afternoon which turned out to be a masterclass on life! As you turn through the pages of this book, you get more immersed in it. It's not a suspense, nor a horror and neither a thriller and yet it keeps you glued.
It's a beautiful conversation between Morrie Schwartz, a 78 year old Professor with terminal illness and his 37 year old student who is a very popular sports columnist now( the author of the book ). They discuss life and all that comes along with it including death. Tuesdays is their day when they catch up over food and life lessons.
As kids in school we used to ask questions about everything under the sun, but as we grew up, we hesitated to ask questions, but then life hits hard and we are reminded of our teachers back in play school, school, coaching classes and college. And we feel like going back to them and asking them the real important questions that will appear in the test of life. But not all of us get this chance, but the writer of this book turned out to be lucky to have found out about his professor from a tv show and what happened after that is 'Tuesdays with Morrie'. I don't want to be a spoiler, so I won't go into details, as I really want all of you to read this book, it will open the windows of your perspectives and give you a better view of life and death.
Their conversations are about the world, feeling sorry for yourself, regrets, death, family, emotions, fear of aging, money, love, marriage, culture, forgiveness and a perfect day. Trust me it will be difficult to choose which is your favorite chapter. All of them are just filled with lines worth remembering.
Yet there is one line that hit me the most which is ," Death ends a life, not a relationship". Last year in April I lost my aunt, she was quite close to me and in fact she was the person who had never missed calling me on my birthday, a birthday without her call will be an incomplete birthday, but then I read this line and I felt like, the calls still won't come but the love in the relationship continues to stay and I think that will suffice!
So all my dear readers go grab your copy, because it's a 78 year old sociology professor with terminal illness and he is going to decipher life, that's my return gift for you all. And for those who find it hard to read I have a shortcut, there is a movie made on this book by the same name on YouTube, but trust me nothing beats the beauty of reading this book, as you will read and re-read some of the beautiful lines and even highlight them for future references.
Once again thanks for all the feedback gifts, and I hope you all like my return gift!
Happy Reading,
Siddhi Bhosale.
